Supporting Orangutan Conservation

Leave a Legacy

Dr. Biruté Mary Galdikas, President of OFI Canada

It’s been 50 years since Dr. Biruté Mary Galdikas arrived at what became Camp Leakey after a full day’s boat journey up the Sekonyer River to begin her life’s work in Borneo. It was within the first few weeks of her arrival at Camp Leakey, that her legacy began and she started the groundbreaking conservation and research work that continues to this day – half a century later. She continues to study, rescue, and rehabilitate orangutans. She continues to save, protect, and replant the orangutans’ rainforest home. She continues to educate, inspire, and spur people on to help fight for orangutans’ future in this world.

Legacy is about the mark that you leave on the world and the impact you make.

Part of your legacy can be believing that there is hope for orangutans. By leaving a gift in your Will you will help save current and future generations of orangutans. You can ensure the continuation of rescuing, rehabilitating, and releasing orangutans, funding land purchasing and protection, safeguarding Camp Leakey and other release sites from illegal logging, illegal poaching, and other threats to both the rainforest and the orangutans.

OFIC works to support the work done on the ground in Borneo directly making a positive impact on orangutan lives and well-being. You will help ensure that this can continue long after all of us are gone and that your legacy includes saving and protecting orangutans and their environment. The situation is becoming dire for orangutans and this is why it is of the utmost importance that we take steps to help ensure a future for them. It is not just our world, it is theirs as well. You can help save and preserve a future that includes the magic of the rainforest and the majestic red ape.

“We must ensure a future for great apes in the wild or we will be left alone on this planet with no family to call our own except for ourselves, humans” – Dr. Biruté Mary Galdikas
